Here at Fiorello’s, we’re all about community. In our new Foodie-rello’s blog series, we’re taking the opportunity to highlight some of our favorite local businesses, and introduce the Fiorello’s eatership to whom we consider the “Best of the Bay Area.” Living in such a culturally rich locale, with no shortage of fantastic fine dining and family-owned markets to source nutritious food, we think it’s only right.
This week, we’re up on the Sonoma coast in beautiful Bodega Bay, where Fishetarian Fish Market calls their home.
Founded by husband and wife Shane and Dana Lucas, Fishetarian was born of a passion for fishing, cooking and eating delicious, health conscious seafood. Their menu melds together fisherman and vegetarian sensibilities into one helluva coastal beach stop.
Their motto is “come with the sand on your feet and don’t leave without trying the piled-high fish tacos or the award winning clam chowder.”
Best of all, you can pick up some fresh-off-the-boat seafood to go, on your way out!
Lifelong fisherman Shane Lucas was born and raised in nearby Sebastopol and has been in the seafood industry for his entire career.
His parents, Jim and Peggy Lucas, purchased the Lucas Wharf fish dock in 1973 and opened the Lucas Wharf restaurant in 1984. Shane’s Dad, Uncle and Grandfather ran the vessel “The Silver Seas,” fishing the waters off of Bodega Bay for many years, a tradition Shane proudly continues.
Known locally as the “Seafood Guru,” Shane’s expertise in fresh seafood selection, and long standing relationships with Sonoma fisherman has been the key to growing the family restaurant over their ten years in business.
Shane and Dana set out to create a fun-filled environment where families and friends can gather and enjoy views of the bay while dining in an ultra casual atmosphere.
Providing locally, sustainably sourced seafood cooked with quality ingredients to the community has always served as an inspiration for Fishetarian — the Lucas family thrives on supporting local fishermen, vendors and farmers.
Their “Bummer Free Zone” policy means if you don’t like your dish, they’ll re-cook your meal until you’re fully satisfied, or offer you a full refund. There’s no beating a guarantee like that!
Prior to Fishestarian, “healthy choices” were limited in this picturesque, but remote oceanfront town.
They offer patrons numerous gluten-free options and source local, organic ingredients whenever possible.
“We started Fishetarian in the summer of 2012 with a goal to be the healthiest fish and chips joint on the coast. We do all those traditional coastal favorites, with a healthy twist!”
In order to protect the natural beauty of our oceans, all of the tableware is recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. Nice touch!
Shane and Dana decided that the best dessert pairing to their tasty Fishetarian cuisine is a serving of our delicious Italian ice cream. We asked why they chose Fiorello’s:
