Here at Fiorello’s, we’re all about community. That’s why we’re embarking on a new community building blog where we’ll be highlighting some of our favorite local businesses and partners, primarily here in Marin County, and occasionally elsewhere too. Our goal is to bring attention to the good, hardworking folks nearby — who not only support us — but more importantly keep our families fed, and healthy.
The Bay Area is a culturally rich locale, with no shortage of fantastic fine dining, and small, family-owned markets to source nutritious food. This ongoing blog series is our opportunity to shine some light on these community pillars, and introduce the Fiorello’s eatership to whom we consider the “Best of the Bay Area.” For our third installment of this series, the spotlight’s on one of the best grocers around — Andy’s Local Market.
Andy’s was founded by Andy and Troy Bachick in 2007 with the goal of building a community store with great food, in style. It’s safe to say all these years later, that they’ve succeeded. In addition to top quality groceries, they’re known for delicious homemade entrees, breads, pastas, and a wide variety of delicatessen offerings like salads and sandwiches. Their premium butcher department is a go-to for our favorite cuts of meat and seafood; with a fully stocked fresh produce section, tons of vegetarian and gluten-free products, and a plentiful wine selection, each of their three Markets (two in San Rafael, one in Corte Madera) is truly a one-stop-shop.
Their Loch Lomond location is the centerpiece of the Marina, standing right on the shore of San Rafael Bay. It’s a beautiful place to take a walk along the jetty trail before heading into the store to gather ingredients for your next home-cooked family meal. The inviting aroma of fresh, tasty bakery items will undoubtedly lure you over to their café section, where baristas are ready to whip up your specialty coffee drink of choice.
Andy’s proudly employs 76 hardworking community members between their three Marin County locations. (They’re always hiring!) We asked Andy what the most rewarding aspect of working at his Market is:
“The food’s always number one! But what’s equally rewarding are the relationships we’ve created in the community.”
Naturally, Andy’s Local Market is fully stocked with a selection of Fiorello’s Artisan Gelato. Andy says:
“We choose Fiorello’s for the quality, and the fact that it’s been made locally for as long as it has. Those things are important to us! And, we love Tony!” (Who doesn’t?)
Andy says his favorite flavor is Tahitian Vanilla, served over a slice of warm homemade apple pie. Yum!
We’d like to thank Andy’s for supporting Fiorello’s for all these years, and supplying the community with fresh food (and our delicious Italian ice cream too). Next time you’re in San Rafael (or Corte Madera), stop by for your groceries, a snack from their deli, or a refreshment at their café. Their markets are a pillar of our community, and we’re fortunate to have them nearby. Thanks Andy!
